Tommy Fenton Obituary

Tommy L. Fenton (Tom) age 66 of Punta Gorda, FL (formerly Watertown, NY) passed away suddenly on Friday morning, September 22nd.

Tom was born March 5th, 1957, in Potsdam, NY, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Lamb Orford. He graduated from General Brown High School and then furthered his education at Jefferson Community College. After several successful years as a realtor with Century 21 where he reached the distinguished “Million Dollar Club”, he then worked as an appraiser before retiring from Knowlton Technologies, LLC.

Tom relocated to Punta Gorda, FL immediately following retirement and enjoyed spending each day with his sons (Tommy and Kyle) and most importantly, his grandson, Noah. Affectionately known as “G-pa”, he never missed any event where Noah was involved. Most notably, he never missed a practice or game, traveling frequently to watch his son, Kyle, coach, and Noah play first base and pitch. The baseball community misses his cheers and enthusiasm from his permanent seat behind home plate. If he ever watched a kid play more than once, he could be heard supporting them by name and number, no matter what team they went on to play for. Tom was blessed with a second grandchild, Kya, in 2022. He loved showing her off at baseball games and in true “G-pa” fashion, gifted her with baseball gear on her first birthday.

Aside from spending time with his family and being a devoted Syracuse fan, Tom enjoyed fishing, gardening, attending local festivals and concerts, antiquing, and relishing every time he beat his son Tommy at cribbage. He cherished friends from different walks of life and always had a funny story to relate any situation to. If you were the frequent brunt of his pranks and jokes or were ever gifted a nickname, then know you were loved.

Tom is survived by his sons, Tommy Lynn Fenton II and Kyle Fenton (Amanda), grandchildren Noah and Kya, all of Punta Gorda, FL. In New York, he leaves behind his sisters Kippy Lamb (Dexter), Debra Zimmer (Dexter), Laurie Orford (Dexter) Julie and Ray Ives (Adams), Cynthia Orford and Dan Hutchinson (Rutland) and brother-in-law Lynn Mehaffy (Dexter) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother, Michael Orford, and sister, Brenda Mehaffy.

Calling hours are scheduled for Saturday, October 21st, from 11:00-12:00 PM with the service immediately following at Johnson Funeral Home, 237 William Street, Dexter, New York, 13634.
