Stanley Edward Hajdasz Jr., 80, of Evans Mills, NY, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, with his daughter Laurie by his side. After successfully completing the physical rehabilitation program at Samaritan Summit Village and being cleared to return home, Stan’s ongoing health challenges brought a sudden but peaceful close to this chapter of his life.
Born on February 14, 1945, in Utica, NY, Stan was the son of Stanley and Catherine (Wyka) Hajdasz. He graduated from Whitesboro Central School in 1964 and married the love of his life, Kathleen M. Carr, on August 27, 1966, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Utica.
Stan’s early career included work as a gas station attendant and at a tire shop in the Utica area, where he developed a remarkable ability to fix anything with wheels, and just about everything else. However, his true passion was dairy farming. After working as a farmhand on several local farms, Stan and Kathy achieved their dream of owning their own dairy farm, closing the purchase on a frigid February day in 1978 in Evans Mills.
They auctioned off their Holsteins and equipment in 2004, marking the end of their farming era. In 2005, Stan took on a new role as manager of the Town of LeRay Transfer Site, a position he held until 2015. It was there that many came to know his trademark smile, warm conversation, and deep generosity.
Stan also served his community in many ways: as a Town of Pamelia Board Member, on both the Town of LeRay and Town of Pamelia Assessment Review Boards, and as an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Evans Mills and, more recently, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Watertown.
Stan is survived by his three children: Donna Hajdasz, John Hajdasz (Christina), and Laurie Faunce (Russ); his beloved grandchildren: Dale Hajdasz (Leanne) and Connor Hajdasz (Stephanie); siblings: Ronald Hajdasz (Linda) and Barbara Krupa; sister-in-law: Ursula Carr; and many cherished nieces and nephews. A special thank you goes to his Summit Village sidekick and dear friend – Hugh, whose friendship brought daily inspiration.
He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, his parents Stanley and Catherine Hajdasz, and his mother-in-law Ella P. Carr.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 North Massey Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
A prayer service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 320 West Lynde Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Route 11, Evans Mills, NY 13637.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to those who cared for Stan on his compelling journey, including Dr. Benny Wong, Dr. Jason White, the entire Samaritan Summit Village family, and the ED & ICU teams at both St. Joseph’s and Samaritan medical facilities - you are all heroes.
