Russell G. Henry Obituary

Russell G. Henry, 40, of Watertown, passed away on November 7, 2025. Known for his sharp wit, curious mind, and love of all things unusual, Russell lived life with a sense of wonder that made him unforgettable to those who knew him.

Born on June 24, 1985, in Watertown to Nicholas P. Henry and Janell J. Matthews, Russell grew up in the Thousand Islands area and developed a lifelong fascination with animals—especially the strange, misunderstood, and overlooked. After graduating from Thousand Islands High School, he earned his Associate’s Degree in Zoo Technology from Jefferson Community College, where he found his calling in animal care.

Russell married Jessica A. Doney, and together they raised two daughters, Penelope Pearl Henry and Beatrix Lillian Bonnie Madelyn Henry. Though their lives took separate paths, Russell and Jessica remained devoted co-parents, united in their love and support for their girls. His daughters were his pride and joy, and he delighted in sharing with them his offbeat humor, eclectic interests, and endless curiosity about the world.

Throughout his life, Russell followed his passions wherever they led him. He worked as a pet groomer and veterinary assistant in Virginia and San Diego, at Kay Jewelers, and later as an Animal Care Specialist at the Thompson Park Zoo. Most recently, he was employed at Samaritan Medical Center. In every role, he brought energy, creativity, and an unmistakable sense of individuality.

Russell had a deep appreciation for the quirky side of life. He loved rock ’n’ roll, fishing, skateboarding, yo-yoing, and exploring odd facts, offbeat hobbies, and anything that defied the ordinary. He was the kind of person who could find fascination in the smallest detail and share it in a way that made others see the world a little differently.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Penelope and Beatrix; his mother, Janell J. Matthews of Clayton, NY; his father, Nicholas P. Henry of Alexandria Bay, NY; his brother, Daniel J. Henry of Clayton, NY; his grandmothers, Bonnie LaBow of Watertown, NY, and Audrey Corley of Alexandria Bay, NY; his loyal dog, Rudy; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever remember his unique spirit.

A memorial service celebrating Russell’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, at River Community Church in Clayton, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.
