Robert R. Monaghan

Robert R. Monaghan, 80, of Watertown, NY, passed away on October 24, 2024, at Samaritan Medical Center. 

Born on December 1, 1943, in Watertown, he was the son of Winfred and Laura (Lawton) Monaghan. Robert graduated from Watertown High School and served in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge.

After his service, Robert worked as a janitor at Samaritan Medical Center, where he dedicated many years until his retirement. He married Carolyn Schmitte on May 26, 1978, and they shared many years together until her passing on October 2, 2019.

Robert was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, and he found joy in gardening and bullhead fishing. 

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Mims, of Watertown, NY; a stepson and his wife, Douglas and Chere Phelps, of North Carolina; three grandsons, Zachary, Skyler, and Collin; and his brother, Winfred “Sunny” Monaghan of Copenhagen, NY. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents, beloved wife Carolyn Monaghan, a sister, Shirley Beardmore, and a brother, Patrick Monaghan.

As per his wishes, Robert will be cremated, and  burial with military honors will be held at North Watertown Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Hart and Bruce Funeral Home.
