Richard M. “Rick” Hall, 75, of Felts Mills, New York, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, at the Hospice Residence at the Ellis Farm.
Born on May 4, 1949, in West Carthage, New York, Rick was the beloved son of Henry F. and Norma E. (Hickox) Hall. Rick grew up in West Carthage and graduated from Augustinian Academy in Carthage, where he excelled as a track athlete. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1968 until he was honorably discharged in 1972. He served in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Service Medal and Defense Service Medal. For over 30 years, Rick worked as a lab technician for St. Regis Paper Company in DeFeriet, retiring from Champion International.
Rick was married to Christine (Donah) Hall for 26 years, during which time they were blessed with two children. Though their marriage later ended in divorce, Rick remained a devoted father.
He was known as a strong, intelligent man with an exceptional ability to fix just about anything. Rick had a keen interest in trivia and unusual medical facts, and he was known for always keeping his hair impeccably styled. He enjoyed joy rides, visiting with friends, and was an avid collector of various items.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Shannon Sherman and her husband Edward of Lawton, Oklahoma, and his son, Cory Hall of Felts Mills, NY. He is also survived by four siblings, Judy Sholette of Ogdensburg, NY; Elizabeth “Nancy” Hall of Carthage, NY; George Hall and his wife Judy of Carthage, NY, and Joe Hall and his wife Elaine of Carthage, NY; a sister in law, Joanne Hall of Interlachen, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rick was predeceased by his brother, Jack Hall, and his brother-in-law, Nelson Sholette.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Noon on Sunday, September 8th at the Bruce Funeral Home 131 Maple St., Black River. A celebration of life will follow at the Black River American Legion.
