Rene H. Cooper Obituary

Rene H. Cooper, 108, of Calcium, NY, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024 at the Jefferson County Hospice Residence at the Ellis Farm, surrounded by his family. 

He was born to Rutherford and Helen (Dillin) Cooper, and shared his birth with his twin sister on March 16th,1916 at the family home in Calcium currently owned by his daughter Susanna and Kenneth Gardner. Rene was a well known self employed auto mechanic in the area for many years. In 1966 he joined Lofink Motors in Carthage, NY as the service manager until retiring in 1978, he then continued doing work from his own business. Rene was an avid target shooter his whole life and won many competitions. He was a man of strong faith and attended the Calcium Community Church for many years until he was unable to attend.

He married Dorothy R. Loveland on October 9th, 1937 in Watertown, NY, they shared many happy years together until Dorothy passed away in January 1991. Together they raised two daughters.

He is survived by his daughter Susanna and her husband Kenneth Gardner, son-in-law and caregiver Leonard Hamilton, Jr., grandsons Scott E. Ring, Jason R. C. and Jennifer Ring, and granddaughter Holly S. Ring O’Brien, great grandsons Patrick O’Brien and Peter O’Brien and great granddaughter Erin O’Brien as well as great great grandson Cooper T. Olver.

He was predeceased by his wife, his daughter Betty L. Cooper, parents, sister Vaenetta and F. Irving Ryor, his twin sister Rhea and Russell Ryor and brother Harold Cooper.

Arrangements are being handled by Hart & Bruce Funeral Home in Watertown, NY. It was his wish to be cremated. There will be no calling hours or services, burial will be private at the Sanford Corners Cemetery in Calcium, NY at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Hospice of Jefferson County at 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff for the loving care of Rene, through this difficult time in his life.
