Paul F. Bell Obituary

Paul F. Bell, 79, of Watertown, NY, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, at the Hospice Residence of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm, with his daughter by his side. 

Born on April 8, 1945, in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of Charles and Verdie (Cody) Bell. Paul attended school in Virginia before enlisting in the United States Army in 1963. A decorated veteran, he served honorably in Vietnam and retired in 1989 as a Master Sergeant. His distinguished service earned him numerous awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Expert Badge (Rifle), Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Bars, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Army Achievement Medal. After his military service, Paul returned to Watertown, where he worked at the Watertown Post Office as a mail sorter until his retirement. 

Paul married Louann Cleary, with whom he had two children before their marriage ended in divorce. On September 1, 2011, he married Deborah Vandermill, and the couple resided in Watertown.

 In his free time, Paul enjoyed riding his Goldwing motorcycle and took great pride in his California Special Red Mustang. He also found joy in mowing his lawn, which he did with great pride and care. 

Paul is survived by his wife, Deborah L. Bell; two children, Jennifer A. Bell and her fiancé, Tyler Grill of Watertown, NY, and Christopher P. Bell and his wife, Chrystal, of Colorado Springs, CO; a stepdaughter, Kristen Hunter, and her husband, Timothy, of Rodman, NY; four grandchildren, Myia Grill, Jace, Chamille, and Cerenity Bell; three step-grandchildren, Nickaela LaJoie, Natalie, and Kennedy Hunter; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents, his stepdaughter, Nicki Johnston, and seven siblings: Mary Oswalt, Anna Mae Sorey, Hazel Sermons, Dora Long, Billy Bell, Bobby Bell, and Charles Bell, Jr. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 25th, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 4 p.m., including military honors.
