Mary A. DeYear, 73, of Watertown, New York, passed away on May 22, 2024, at Samaritan’s Summit Village.
She was born on August 14, 1950, in Watertown, New York, to Francis and Ruth (Petrie) Lunderman. Mary graduated from Watertown High School in 1968 and served her country during the Vietnam War as a Squadron Test Preparation Clerk in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant before her honorable discharge on April 1, 1974.
On November 1, 1975, Mary married Carl H. DeYear at the First Methodist Church, and they made their home in Watertown. Mary dedicated her career to serving her community, working as a clerk for the Jefferson County Department of Social Services until her retirement in 2005.
She was a devoted member of the Brownville American Legion, where she served as historian and participated in numerous parades. Mary cherished her time with family, she enjoyed bowling and was in bowling leagues at Pla-Mor Lanes, and she attended Asbury United Methodist Church, where she actively participated in communion services. In her leisure time, Mary found joy in cross-stitching, reading Stephen King novels, and watching science fiction movies.
She is survived by her brother, Francis E. Lunderman Jr. of Watertown; her twin sister, Sally A. and Ronald T. Clobridge Sr. of Chesapeake, Virginia; her niece, Mary Jo Rivera of Watertown, New York; her nephew, Ronald J. Clobridge Jr. of Maryland; and several other nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl, on March 16, 1986, and her sister-in-law, Dian Lunderman.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Glenwood Cemetery with military honors.
