Marie (Brasa) Surdo, 87

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Marie Surdo, passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Marie was born on July 25, 1936, in Tuckahoe, New York, she was the daughter of Jenny and Alexander Brasa.
Marie earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing at NYU in 1960. On July 15, 1961, she married the love of her life and soul mate, Nicholas Surdo, in Tuckahoe, New York, sharing 62 years of wedded bliss.
Through this loving match they had two wonderful sons, Nicholas Jr. and John.
In 1971, the couple moved to a farm outside of Sackets Harbor, moving away in 1981 before returning permanently in 1999. Marie co-founded the Yellow Barn Winery, running it along with her husband, Nicholas, and daughter-in-law, Maryellen, until her illness in 2016. She was a big supporter of farming and the winery.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Nicholas Surdo Sr.; her two sons and their wives, Nicholas and Mary Ellen Surdo Jr., and John and (Xui Yun) Surdo; and her grandson, David Surdo.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Richard Brasa, and a grandson, Michael Surdo.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 4th, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter, New York. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service, and a private burial will take place in the spring at the Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
