Margaret G. Powell, 88, of Watertown, NY, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, where she had been a resident.
Born December 25, 1936, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (Pollash) Fitzpatrick. Margaret graduated from St. Edward's High School and married her high school sweetheart, Evan Powell, on October 1, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in PA.
She was employed as a dietitian at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. The couple moved to Maryland where she was a medical receptionist for various doctor’s offices up until she retired.
Following the passing of her beloved husband, Evan, on January 6, 2018, Margaret moved back to Watertown in 2018, residing at Samaritan Summit Village before moving to the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home in 2021.
Margaret is survived by her four children: Anne Yedowitz of Yonkers, NY; David Powell of Kentucky; Mary Lou VanDusen of Sackets Harbor, NY; and Edward (Sue) Powell of Macedon, NY. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Eddie Keel of SC, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Evan Powell; a sister in infancy, Louise; and two brothers, Donald and Edward Fitzpatrick.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel, Maryland, on Monday, August 11th at Noon, followed by burial at St. Mary’s of the Mill Cemetery.
