Karen M. Jamieson, 65, of Three Mile Bay, New York, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025 at their winter home in North Fort Myers, FL where she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 30, 1959, in Watertown, NY, the daughter of Martin M. and Marlene I. (Gast)Toper.
Karen was a 1977 graduate of Watertown High School and went on to attend SUNY Cortland, where she was recognized as an All-American swimmer. She earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1981 and later pursued her master’s degree in elementary education from SUNY Potsdam in 1986. In 1996, she received her administrative degree from SUNY Oswego. Karen began her career in fitness at the Binghamton YMCA before transitioning into education. While working toward her master’s at Potsdam, she attended Jefferson Community College to receive her certification in math. In 1983, she began teaching math at Carthage High School, where she would go on to serve as the assistant principal from 2009 until her retirement in 2014.
On August 20, 1983, Karen married Tedd R. Jamieson at Concordia Lutheran Church. The couple spent most of their married lives in Adams Center, NY, before moving to Three Mile Bay in 2014. They also wintered in North Fort Myers, FL, where Karen was an active member of the Sabal Springs Community. She enjoyed golfing, swimming, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and was a proud member of the Adams American Legion Auxiliary.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Tedd R. Jamieson; her father, Martin Toper of Adams Center, NY; two daughters, Kristin J. (Tonee) LaBar of Calcium, NY, and Jenna L. (Tony) Gianfagna of Evans Mills, NY; two grandchildren, Hudson and Lennon; her brother and sister in law, Martin A. (Janice) Toper of North Fort Myers, FL; her brothers and sisters in laws, Mark (Sandy) Jamieson, Adams, NY, Joel (Nora) Jamieson, Watertown, NY, Joanne (Bruce) Gayne, Adams, NY and Jill (Scott) Bero, Adams, NY, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Marlene I. Toper and in-laws, Jack and Ruth Jamieson.
Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on June 14th at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at the Adams American Legion. It was Karen’s wish not to have calling hours.
A private burial will be in New Cedar Grove Cemetery in Three Mile Bay at the convenience of the family.
