Karen Elizabeth Lee Obituary

Karen Elizabeth Lee, 68, of Watertown, passed away on November 26, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 23, 1957, in Watertown, NY, Karen was the daughter of Fred and Mary (Stebbins) LaFave. She married the love of her life, Richard W. Lee Jr., and together they built a home filled with love and laughter in Watertown, raising their children with unwavering love, humor, and dedication.

Karen’s family was the center of her world. She was proudly known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, which she adored with all her heart. In a family as big as hers, she stood out as everyone’s favorite “Aunt Karen”, always there with love and laughter. Strong-willed, honest, and fiercely loyal, she had a gift for speaking her mind while making everyone feel deeply cared for.

She enjoyed working in her garden, spending time with her family, decorating for the holidays, and fishing on the St. Lawrence River. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the family cottage in Hammond, NY. Karen loved cooking for her loved ones and was famous for making enough food to feed all of Watertown—no one ever left her table hungry, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Karen gave generously of herself and her time, always ready to support family, friends, and her community. She volunteered at the Salvation Army, sharing her kindness and care with those in need, and served proudly as a dedicated member of the VFW Post 1400 Auxiliary.

Among her survivors are her beloved husband, Richard W. Lee Jr.; three children, Ryan P. (Briana) Lee of Watertown, Corinne E. (Bradley) Mercer of Watertown, and Carson M. Lee of Watertown; and six grandchildren, Nicholas and Elizabeth Lee, Keagan, Brendan, Avery, and Peyton Mercer. The family also eagerly awaits the arrival of her newest grandson in April, a blessing she was thrilled to know about.

One of twelve children, Karen was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews who left this world too soon. Her loving spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, including her seven surviving siblings, who continue to cherish her memory and honor her generous, funny, and feisty spirit.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 20, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home from 2-4 pm, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. A Celebration of Life will follow at VFW Post 1400 to honor and remember Karen’s vibrant life and the joy she brought to so many.
