Judith C. Eisel Obituary

Judith C. Eisel, 79, of Copenhagen, NY, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at Lewis County General Hospital, surrounded by her beloved family.

Judith was born on August 13, 1945, in Carthage, NY, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Jones) Young. As a young girl, Judith faced challenges that were lightened by the loving support of her aunts and uncles, Elma and Harry Pickel, Gertrude and Norman Jones, and Harry and Norma Hall who played pivotal roles in helping her through difficult times.

Judith attended school in one-room schoolhouses in Champion and Deer River and various schools before finishing her education at Copenhagen Central School. She married Stephen C. Eisel on February 27, 1965, in Copenhagen. Together, they took over the family farm from Stephen’s parents, Henry and Antoinette Eisel. For more than 30 years, they worked tirelessly to grow and operate the farm while raising their four children.

After their marriage ended in 1994, Judith relocated to Pennsylvania with her daughter Carol and grandson Joshua. There, she found joy in helping to raise her grandson, whom she homeschooled throughout his elementary years. During her time in Pennsylvania, Judith and Carol established a successful business, E & A Mercantile, where they crafted handmade items and showcased their creations at various shows across the state. Upon returning to Copenhagen, Judith and her daughter continued their entrepreneurial endeavors in New York.

Judith also assisted her son Larry with his business, taking on bookkeeping and other responsibilities, which she continued until her passing.

A woman of many passions, Judith enjoyed documentaries, Western films, flea markets, secondhand shops, and decorating for Christmas and other holidays. She cherished her Amish neighbors, both in Pennsylvania and New York, and developed lasting friendships with them. Known for her patriotism and charitable heart, Judith was especially devoted to supporting veterans,  sending 1,500 Christmas cards to hospitalized veterans every year.

Judith is survived by her four children: Stephen "Larry" Eisel of Copenhagen, NY; Annie Eisel Garza of Copenhagen, NY; Patricia Eisel Miles of Rochester, NY; and Carol Alberry of Copenhagen, NY; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Tom Young of Antwerp, NY; Jim Young of Evans Mills, NY; Robert (Ferne) Young of Theresa, NY; Mary (Fred) Bruyns of Oregon; Christina (Rick) Dorr of Ohio; and Dan (Kerry) Young of Black River, NY; many nieces and nephews.  She also treasured her dear friends, Anna and Harold Sullivan, and Bernard and Lillian Burcume of Copenhagen.

She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Edward and William Young; a sister-in-law, Vera Eisel Young; a brother-in-law, Al Eisel; two nephews, Bill Eisel and Bruce Stephenson; her in-laws, Henry and Antoinette Eisel; and her grandparents, Ralph and Rose Jones.

Funeral arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River, NY. A graveside service will take place on June 10, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery, Champion, NY.
