John A. Wager, 81, of Watertown, New York, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Born on June 2, 1943, in Watertown, NY he was the son of Clinton F. and Louise A. (LaLonde) Wager. John graduated from Watertown High School and furthered his education at Canton Tech, where he earned an associate degree in business administration.
On June 13, 1964, he married Linda Brown in Philadelphia, New York. Their marriage was later blessed at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church.
John began his professional career at Marine Midland Bank in Watertown, which later became HSBC. He dedicated 27 years to the bank until 1988, after which he continued his banking career at Citizens Bank in Chaumont, New York, until his retirement.
John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family camp in Clayton. He also loved bowling and golfing and was a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge No. 496.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Sharon L. Wager of Syracuse, NY; his daughter and son-in-law, Karin L. and Rich C. Dorr of Dexter, NY; and three grandchildren: Brendan Wager, Oliver Wager, and Nicholas Wager. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Lucinda and John Carney of Niagara Falls, NY, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda Wager, and his brother and sister-in-law, Henry “Pete” and Anne Wager.
Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 5th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
