James W. Petrie

James W. Petrie, 78, of Watertown, NY, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center.

He was born on May 20, 1946, the son of Ernest and Gladys Petrie. James was one of 29 children and spent his early years overcoming significant challenges. After becoming disabled as a young boy, he resided at Rome State School and later became part of the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center family—now known as The Arc—where he lived for many years.

James had a deep love for classic cars, toy cars, and fresh tomatoes. He was known for his gentle spirit and the joy he found in simple pleasures.

Among his survivors are his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Brenda Petrie of Watertown, NY, as well as many additional siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 6, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Reverend Doug Marlow officiating. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, May 8, at 1:00 PM at North Watertown Cemetery.
