Harold M. O'Brien Obituary

Harold M. O’Brien, 88, of Watertown, NY, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 11, 2025, at Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse.

He was born on May 21, 1936, in Watertown, the son of Martin and Mabel (Greenwood) O’Brien. Harold was raised on the family farm in the town of Pamelia, where he worked alongside his parents. After the early passing of his father, Harold took over the operation of the farm and continued running it until 1967.

He then began a long and dedicated career as a truck driver, delivering feed to local farms. He started with Agway and later retired from Huoghton Feeds in Pierpont Manor.

On September 20, 1958, Harold married Carolyn A. Call at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. The couple made their home on the family homestead, where they lived together for their entire married life. Carolyn was a devoted homemaker, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and strong family values.

Harold and Carolyn shared a passion for dancing, often following the Nelson Brothers Band throughout the local area with many friends and family. He was known for his tireless work ethic and could always be found tending to the homestead or staying busy with a project. More than anything, Harold cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Among his survivors are his beloved wife of 66 years, Carolyn A. O’Brien; three children: Todd M. O’Brien of Potsdam, NY, Terry E. O’Brien of Buffalo, NY, and Tanya M. Sala and her partner Jamie Barkley of Potsdam, NY; six grandchildren: Troy O’Brien, Trevor O’Brien, Cara O’Brien, Tanner O’Brien, Aaron Sala, and Paige Sala.

In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by three sisters: Laurine Flitcroft, Bernice Sequin, and Geraldine Barr.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 16, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold’s memory to the Northpole Fire Department. Online condolences may be left at www.hartandbrucefh.com.
