ROCHESTER, NY – Ethelyne P. Cousins, 96, of Rochester, NY, and formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 30 at Hamilton Manor.
Born March 2, 1929, in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of James and Florence (Loshaw) Johnson. Ethelyne graduated from Watertown High School.
She married Charles R. Cousins in March of 1947. They lived in many places but ultimately settled in Rochester NY upon Charles getting a job at Kodak. After raising her children, she enjoyed working at Charlotte High School, waitressing, and volunteering at her local church. Throughout her life, Ethelyne cherished Saturday nights, gathering with friends and family to enjoy live music in the kitchen. She enjoyed bowling and, when at home, listening to Loretta Lynn records. Her love for music allowed her sons to host band practices throughout the years in their home.
Surviving are her sons and their wives, Charles “Chuck” (Donna) Cousins Jr. of Mercersburg, PA, and Daniel (Margaret) Cousins of Rochester; her sister Nancy Walters of Watertown; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles; her parents; a son, Wendell (Cheryl) Cousins; a daughter, Therse Cousins; brothers James and Richard Johnson; and sisters Bonnie Cook and twins Doretta Yott and Loretta Plumer.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held on July 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on July 8 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, with burial to follow at North Watertown Cemetery.
