Emery W. Shaw Obituary

Emery W. Shaw, 84, of Watertown, New York, passed away on February 12, 2026.

He was born on July 25, 1941, in Woodville, New York, the son of Roy and Marjorie (Knight) Shaw. Emery graduated from Carthage Central High School in 1959.

Emery dedicated many years to his work as a mechanic. He was employed by Seaway Vending Machines for 14 years, worked at the Sunoco Station on State Street for six years, and later served as a mechanic with the Watertown City Department of Public Works from 1981 until his retirement in 1995.

On July 1, 1979, he married Ruth Cleary in the Town of Champion. Ruth passed away on April 3, 2017.

Emery enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was also a talented musician and played bass guitar and sang with The Mustangs /The Mavericks for 23 years, sharing his love of music with the community.  He also enjoyed going to the Fairgrounds for lunch with friends.

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda Shaw-Robbins and Carl of Watertown, NY, and Tami and Jim Bovard of Interlaken, NY and a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Theresa LaPlatney of Florida; nine grandchildren, Christine (Joshua) McGuane, Courtney Robbins, Lindsey (Jeremy) Chipp, Rachel (Chance) Lotman, Dustin (Ashley) Bovard, Miki-Rai (McKenna) Bovard, Samantha LaPlatney, and Matthew LaPlatney; a sister, Linda Shaw of Adams Center, NY; as well as several  great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Emery was predeceased by his parents, beloved wife Ruth, and his brother, Gary Shaw.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 20th from 2 to 4 p.m.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The family kindly requests that guests dress comfortably, as Emery would have preferred casual attire.
