Daniel C. McCargar Jr., 54, of Adams Center, New York, passed away suddenly at his home on May 17, 2025.
Born on September 29, 1970, in Monmouth County, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Daniel C. McCargar Sr. and Frances A. Dobrowolski McCargar. Dan graduated from Watertown High School in 1988. During and after high school, he worked on the Zahn Farm in Rutland, New York, where he enjoyed lending a hand.
In 1997, Dan began his career as a correction officer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Watertown. He served honorably until his retirement in 2023 due to a disability. During his years of service, he received several commendations recognizing his dedication and contributions.
On September 20, 2003, Dan married the love of his life, Kimberly M. Burnett, in Alexandria Bay, New York. Kimberly has been employed with Sackets Harbor Central School since 2019.
Dan was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, shed hunting, whittling wood, and singing karaoke. He was a proud member and founder of the Heritage Hunting Club. Above all, he deeply loved his family and cherished attending his daughters’ school and sporting events. He also had a special bond with his beagle"Toby" his loyal companion and best buddy.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly M. McCargar of Adams Center, NY; his three cherished daughters, Haley, Brooke, and Kayla McCargar; his sister, Dorothy A. Oatridge of Watertown, NY; two nieces, Holly Oatridge of Alabama and Heather Oatridge of Watertown, NY; his in-laws, Larry and Joan Burnett of Brownville, NY; sister-in-law Brenda Burnett of Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law Brian (Renee) Burnett of Fayetteville, NY, and Mike (Karen) Burnett of Michigan; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hart & Bruce Funeral Home in Watertown. In accordance with his wishes, Dan will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Gathering Barn at Old McDonald’s Farm.
