Clarence R. Clemons Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Clarence R. Clemons, who left us peacefully on October 30, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family and friends under the compassionate care of Hospice. Born on July 2, 1949, in West Carthage, NY, to Robert and Virginia Clemons, Clarence dedicated his life to serving his community. He was a proud professional firefighter for the City of Watertown, a devoted volunteer for the Copenhagen Fire Department, an officer and member of The Copenhagen Church, and he served honorably in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Sergeant with numerous commendations.

Clarence's greatest joy came from his family. He met the love of his life, Karen Marie Stockwell, as children at Copenhagen Central School. They married September 8th, 1973 and built a loving family, welcoming two wonderful sons, Scott (Jaime) Clemons and Cory (Nicole) Clemons. Clarence cherished his five grandchildren—Allie, Leah, Neil, Emma, and Eliza—his motto was, "Grandpa's the name, spoiling's my game."

Beyond his family, Clarence had a passion for coin collecting and a lively interest in politics, particularly his admiration for Donald Trump, which he often shared with friends and family. He faced the challenges of advanced liver disease with remarkable courage, inspiring those around him to be proactive in their healthcare.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, who passed away on December 25, 2003, after a courageous battle with Cancer. Clarence looked forward to the day he would receive his spiritual body and be reunited with his cherished wife in heaven. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Neil, who tragically drowned during their childhood, as well as his parents and many other valued family members.

He is survived by his devoted sons, cherished grandchildren, and countless friends who will forever remember his warmth, generosity, bravery, and unwavering commitment to others.

Arrangements are with Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. A private burial will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Watertown Firefighters Benevolent Association 224 S massey St., Watertown, NY 13601 and Hospice of Jefferson County 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601
