Charles J. Bennett, 75, of Watertown, NY, passed away on May 31, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Charles was born on December 29, 1949, in Watertown, New York son of Charles H. and Josephine M. (Jones) Bennett. He was a graduate of Watertown High School. He entered the military on June 19, 1971 and proudly served as a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged on March 30, 1971 and received the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Service Medal. After his military service, he began a long career at the James River Paper Mill in Brownville, later retiring due to disability.
Charles loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, and listening to music.
He married Joan LaFave and together, they raised two sons before she passed away.
Charles is survived by his beloved companion, Carol Mayne of Watertown, NY; two sons, Charles W. Bennett of Florida and Timothy A. Bennett of Schenectady, NY; a grandson, Aaron Young; two brothers and a sister in law, Christopher (Kim) Bennett of Dexter, NY and Michael Bennett of Maine; two sisters, Lilian Kresge, CO and Suzanne Bennett of Syracuse, NY, two stepchildren, Crystal and Jerry Stuckey of Watertown Center, NY, and Chad Mayne; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife he is predeceased by a brother, James Bennett, and two sisters, Christine Myers and Marianne Pier.
Arrangements are with Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. In keeping with his wishes, Charles will be cremated and there will be no services.
