Catherine E. Bacon

Catherine E. Bacon (1943-2024) Black River, New York 

Catherine E. Bacon, 81, passed away on May 9, 2024, at the Carthage Area Hospital. 

She was born on February 25, 1943, in Black River, New York, to the late Catherine and Buster Barbie.  Cathy, graduated from Carthage Central High School. After school, she settled in Black River and held various roles, including working at Mercy Hospital as an OR tech, at Lollies in DeFeriet as a seamstress, and at Freedman Bus Corp. as a bus driver from 1975 until her retirement in 2010. 

Cathy was a charter member of the Black River Ambulance Squad, where she volunteered for several years. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed many road trips over the years camping. 

Cathy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Christine D. Bacon of Leadington, Missouri, six grandchildren: Elizabeth Kilbourn of Leadington, Missouri, Anthony and Elizabeth Persha of Great Bend, New York, Alan Bacon of Dexter, New York, Scott and Katilyn Bacon of Carthage, New York, Jamie and Rob Straw of Tennessee, and Kenneth Clark of New York, as well as nine great-grandchildren: Maverick, Jocelyn, Nathen, Bradyn, Caydence, Addilyn, Grayson, Jacob, and Silas. 

Cathy was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Youngs, her stepsister, Rita, and her mother and stepfather, Catherine and Buster Barbur.  

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 15th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruce Funeral Home, 131 Maple Street, Black River. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16th, at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Cathy’s memory may be made to the Black River Ambulance Squad.
