Arthur "Luther" Keels Obituary

Arthur “Luther” Keels, 73, of Watertown, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on December 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Luther was born on July 14, 1951, in Florence, South Carolina, the son of Clarence and Earlene (Benjamin) Keels. He spent his early years in Florence, SC before moving to Rochester, NY, and ultimately settling in Watertown over 50 years ago.

Luther was known for his strong work ethic and worked as a truck driver and mechanic for several local businesses throughout his life. Affectionately called “Pops” by many who loved him, he brought warmth, laughter, and an infectious energy to every gathering. He took immense pride in his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Luther was the life of the party, always ensuring those around him felt cherished and entertained.  He also took great pride in growing and showing off his beautifully cultivated pot plants.

Luther is survived by his beloved wife, Louann Patterson; his former wife and lifelong friend, Judy Keels; his children, Darlene and Ron Loomis, Billy and Micaela Keels, Jeff Keels, Dean and Laura Pardy, and Laurie and Jose Reyes; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Pablo, and Cameron; his great-grandchildren, Lilly and Adriana; his brothers, Jesse and Melvin Keels; his sisters, Renetta and Rochelle; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Larry, Clarence, and Tune Keels, and his granddaughter, Alina.

Arrangements are with Hart and Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown, NY. Services will be held in the spring, with burial to follow in North Watertown Cemetery.
