Margaret A. "Peggy" Bracken, 79, of Morgia's Beach, Sackets Harbor, NY, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2024, in Murrells Inlet, SC.
She was born on February 5, 1945, in Watertown, NY, the daughter of Dominic and Julee (Malara) Gorri. Peggy moved to California where she graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1963. Following her graduation she returned to Watertown and married Ronald J. Girard on September 11, 1965. Together the couple had a daughter before they divorced in 1975.
Peggy began her career as a teller at Jefferson County Savings Bank in 1964 and later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield from 1975 until 1980. She then returned to Chase Lincoln Bank until 1987, where she supervised the checking department. Peggy’s dedication led her to the ATM department at Northern Federal Credit Union until her retirement in 2003.
On June 28, 2003, she married Harry E. Bracken at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The couple enjoyed winters in North Myrtle Beach and summers at Morgia's Beach. Peggy was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea in North Myrtle Beach, where she served as a Eucharistic minister.
She is survived by her daughter, Gina Girard of Seabright, NJ; sister and brother-in-law Marie and Allan Brown of Norton, MA; brother and sister-in-law Frank and Coryne Gorri of Watertown, NY; stepson Gary E. Bracken of Spencerport, NY, stepdaughter and son-in-law Diane and Lee Funderburk of Greenwood, SC, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Harry in October of 2021.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17th at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
